Description

Women’s lives are busier than ever, and many of us are feeling drained, overwhelmed and burnt out. We feel pressured to be everything to everyone, often putting ourselves second. The choices we make every day affect our livelihood, our mood and our ability to perform both at work and at home. Get back on track at this session of Women Connect, where three local experts will take the stage to share three views of self care. You’ll hear how to get better sleep, practice whole-hearted living and put yourself first.

One-third of our lives is spent sleeping. Many of us have disturbed, restless nights, whether from stress, super-busy lives tech habits, hormonal changes, kids or snoring partners. Mathison will share proven strategies anyone to can use to optimize the bedroom environment for sleep, make better choices and cope with the demands of life.

The term “self-care” has become synonymous with pedicures and bubble baths, but it is much more than these occasional treats. Self-care is living a wholehearted life. Nelson will help us explore how to have more courage, compassion, and connection using 10 Guideposts for Wholehearted Living by researcher Brené Brown. She will also address the things that get in the way of prioritizing self-care: fear and vulnerability.

Women are working more hours, progressing further in our careers, and yet, we don’t pause and “check in” to make sure we are OK. This can have negative consequences for ourselves, as well as those around us. Olson will share how women can find the resources to pursue their personal priorities, and give themselves permission to say no to the obligations that don’t matter and yes to the ones that do.

After each presenter takes the stage, the three panelists will sit down and answer audience questions.

Please consider bringing personal hygiene items such as deodorant or body wash/soap to donate to Fraser Transitional Youth Services to help give confidence and basic needs to young people transitioning out of homelessness.
