“Unseen No More” Event to Shine Light on Human Trafficking

Unseen, based in Fargo, is shining light on the problem of human trafficking this Giving Hearts Day by hosting an Unseen No More event where people can power a large light bulb by exercising on fitness machines, or cheer on the exercisers.

 “30-minutes on a fitness machine is obviously not the same as 18-hours on a sewing machine or in a cobalt mine or working in a brothel.” says Mark Matthes, Unseen COO. “But it’s still a taste of repetitive work in a 24-hour scenario. It’s also a visual of people joining together with a common goal of multiplying freedom one person at a time.”

This event will shed light on two realities of trafficking: (1) It takes many people and many organizations collaborating to tackle a complex problem involving 40+ million slaves worldwide. (2) 62% of slaves are in forced labor jobs where they can’t break free, are required to work excessive hours for little or no pay, and they often perform repetitive, injury-inducing work under abusive conditions.
