How the FBI is Tackling the Cyber Threat – What We Are Seeing and What is of Concern
John Bonhage, Special Agent, FBI Minneapolis
John Bonhage has been a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for over 25 years and has worked on criminal, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, environmental, white-collar crime, insider threat and aviation security matters at FBI Minneapolis. He also served on the FBI SWAT team for 20 years and is an FBI certified Firearms Instructor.
SA Bonhage is currently the Private Sector Coordinator for Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota and serves as the conduit for critical infrastructure protection information exchange between the FBI and corporate entities in the Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota area. In addition, SA Bonhage is the InfraGard coordinator for the Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota chapters.

Art Bakke, Information Security Officer & Assistant Vice President, Starion Bank
As the Information Security Officer, AVP for Starion Bank, Art provides oversight and management to protect the information assets of the bank and supports the information technology governance policies and processes, audit and compliance, information security, records management, vendor management and business continuity management for the organization's 16 locations across North Dakota and Wisconsin. He has more than 28 years of information technology and information security experience supporting large, complex enterprise networking environments.
He formerly served as the Enterprise Information Systems Security Administrator and Security Architect for the State of the North Dakota, and as a Wide Area Network administrator and Information Security Officer for the ND Department of Human Services. He served local government entities as a system support analyst with the ND Association of Counties, and he served at the federal level as an IT manager in the United States Air Force. Art is a member of InfraGard – a partnership between critical infrastructure providers and the FBI. Art currently serves as a member of the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center. Art holds degrees in information technology management, human resource management, marketing, and organizational leadership. Art serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Bismarck State College Cybersecurity Program.
Jesse Heck, Director of Operations, Dakota Carrier Network
Jesse is the director of operations at Dakota Carrier Network (DCN), a North Dakota fiber-optic network owned by 14 independent broadband service providers that serves more than 164,000 customers in nearly every community across the state. He leads the DCN technology team that provides business solutions including dedicated internet, private mesh networks, cybersecurity services, cloud computing, and co-location at its tier III data centers in Fargo and Bismarck.
He joined DCN in August 2000 as a Network Operations Center technician before he was promoted to director of operations in February 2011. Heck is a member of the North Dakota Cybersecurity Task Force and the Mapcom Systems Client Advisory Board. He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Mary in Bismarck. He lives in Bismarck with his wife and two children.
Peter Martinson, Director of Incident Response, Blue Team Alpha
Peter Martinson is an Information Security Professional with 20+ years of Information Technology and Cyber Security experience. Peter has held roles handling various aspects of large and complex information security programs, most recently as Information Security Officer for a cybersecurity consulting firm and is currently Director of Incident Response with Blue Team Alpha. Peter has deep experience serving as an information security advisor and consultant, as well as experience with leading and managing Incident Response and Recovery teams. His responsibilities have included GRC, GDPR, PCI, SOC2, audit, risk assessment and remediation, vulnerability management, vendor management, security awareness programs and has taught in the MBA program for Cardinal Stritch University. He is constantly learning and is an evangelist for strong security awareness programs.
John Mess, Senior Security Advisor, Network Center, Inc.
Sr. Security Advisor for Network Center with over 10+ years in the Information/Cybersecurity Industry. John’s main role is to meet with organizations to discuss Cybersecurity strategy, roadmaps, and remediation. He has been heavily involved with NIST and ISO-based Risk Assessments as wells as Penetration Testing, PCI, and Incident Response. In the past year John has been a part of over 30 “Incidents/Events” ranging from small email compromises to full-blown companywide encryption and ransomware. John’s main goal is to help facilitate the journey of having a “PROACTIVE” mindset and “Security First” Corporate Culture.
Michael Nouguier, Director of Cybersecurity, Eide Bailly
Michael has over 20 years of IT and Cybersecurity experience across multiple industry verticals including government, financial, manufacturing, hospitals and medical facilities. He focuses on building strategy and hope through innovative and preventative cybersecurity solutions and works with organizations to identify the root causes of concern to remediate risk and build a greater security posture. Michael takes the time to truly understand the challenges that Eide Bailly's clients are facing, guiding clients to the best solution for their individual needs and educates clients on cybersecurity concepts throughout the entire process.
Dan Hanson, Senior Vice President, Marsh & McLennan Agency
Dan is the Senior Vice President of Management Liability & Client Experience for Marsh & McLennan Agency’s Upper Midwest Region. He strives to elevate the client experience through technical expertise, and elevated service while supporting over 1300 colleagues, and thousands of clients in the Upper Midwest Region.
In his role as Senior Vice President of Management Liability, Dan designs programs to protect his clients by managing and reducing their executive risk exposures. He specializes in executive liability lines of insurance, including directors and officer liability (D&O), employment practices liability (EPL), fiduciary liability, professional liability (errors and omissions), and network security/cyber liability insurance serving and co-chairs both the XLP and Cyber National Centers of Expertise for Marsh McLennan Agency.
