January 25 | Noon to 1:00 pm | Louise Auditorium, Barry Hall In recognition of the discoveries and achievements that led to this year's Nobel Prize awards, the Challey Institute is excited to host, Nobel at Noon. Our event features NDSU faculty members giving short presentations on the discoveries that led to the Nobel Prizes awarded in 2023, and their significance. Lunch will be provided to enjoy during the presentation and a question and answer session with event guests will follow. Featured panelists include: John Bitzan, Menard Family Director of the Challey Institute -Dr. Bitzan will moderate the event. Julia Bowsher, Professor and Department Chair of Biological Sciences -Dr. Bowsher will discuss the Nobel Prize in Medicine awarded to Katalin Kaiko and Drew Weissman, for their discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19. Erik Hobbie, Interim Chair of Physics -Dr. Hobbie will discuss the Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Moungi G. Bawendi, Louis E. Brus, and Aleksy I. Yekimov, for the discovery and synthesis of quantum dots. -Dr. Hobbie will also discuss the Nobel Prize in Physics awarded to Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz, and Anne L'Huillier, for experimental methods that generate attosecond pulses of light for the study of electron dynamics in matter. Keri Lawson, Assistant Professor of Economics and Challey Institute Scholar -Dr. Lawson will discuss the Sveriges Riksbank Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences awarded to Claudia Goldin, for having advanced our understanding of women's labour market outcomes. Event Parking: Guests are encouraged to park in the Elim Lot. Free parking passes for the Elim Lot are available at the event check-in table, please request one if needed.
