SPRING! After a long and brutal winter, there is nothing more welcoming than the sights, sounds and smells of spring.
PROGRAM - The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony celebrates our world coming to life with “The Beauty of Spring” Masterworks Concert featuring music by Lili Boulanger (the evocative and sparkling On a Spring Morning), Ernest Chausson (Poème featuring returning violin soloist TAI MURRAY), and Gustav Mahler (Symphony No. 1). Once titled “Spring Without End,” the first movement of Mahler’s First Symphony is a musical awakening, starting with the call of the cuckoo and, with a massive orchestra featuring SEVEN French horns, takes the listener on an epic and tumultuous journey through nature in bloom.
SOLOIST - Described as "superb" by The New York Times, violinist TAI MURRAY has established herself a musical voice of a generation. “Technically flawless... vivacious and scintillating... It is without doubt that Murray’s style of playing is more mature than that of many seasoned players… " (Muso Magazine)
Appreciated for her elegance and effortless ability, TAI MURRAY creates a special bond with listeners through her personal phrasing and subtle sweetness. Winner of an Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2004, Tai Murray was named a BBC New Generation Artist and has been a member of Chamber Music Society II at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. She has performed as guest soloist on main stages throughout the world, and is a dedicated advocate of contemporary works written for the violin.
