Description

Kids (and Cookies) in the Concert Hall – “Folk Tales, Folk Tunes & Folk Dances”
Conducted by Jane Linde Capistran
Piano soloist and winner of the Young Artists Solo Competition, Caleb Mendez

FM Symphony

A concert for the whole family with free cookies, and students grades K-12 attend for free!

PROGRAM – The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony is excited to introduce you to the orchestra and its music! Did you know that classical composers used folk music as an inspiration to their own music and incorporated folk songs into their musical compositions? Folk tunes, folk dances and folk tales are all part of the music you’ll hear – from a can-can, to Frère Jacques, to the music of How to Train Your Dragon, the symphony will have you dancing in your seat! A very special guest will be performing a PIANO CONCERTO with the symphony -- winner of the 2022 Young Artist Solo Competition, CALEB MENDEZ, a high school junior from Crookston, MN, will be playing Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No. 2. As you leave the concert hall, Family Fare is providing a FREE COOKIE for all in attendance!

SOLOIST - Caleb Mendez (High School Junior) in Crookston, MN, is a Red River Valley-based pianist at the University of Minnesota (PSEO). He has studied under Mei-Chuan Lin, Ph.D., and currently is a student of Nariaki Sugiura, D.M, both from the University of North Dakota. Mendez was the winner in the high school division of the Greater Grand Forks Young Artist Concerto Competition (2021), the North Dakota MTNA Competition "Senior Performance" (2021), and most recently the winner in the high school division of the Thorenson Steffes Young Artists Solo Competition (2022).
