John Bitzan presents, "Is There Tolerance of Different Points of View on Campus? U.S. College Students' Attitudes Toward Free Speech, Understanding of Human Progress, and Views on Capitalism/Socialism" in the Human Progress and Flourishing Workshop. This event is free and open to all members of the NDSU community and the public. The workshop format includes a 40-minute presentation followed by audience Q&A. After the presentation, light food and refreshments will be served in the Challey School of Music Atrium. What is the talk about? Recently, we surveyed 2,250 undergraduate students at 131 colleges and universities across the U.S. about their attitudes toward viewpoint diversity, their knowledge of human progress, and their attitudes toward capitalism and socialism. The results are interesting and concerning. This presentation will highlight student views from the survey and why understanding these views is important. It will also highlight some potential solutions and ways that students can take action to help create an environment open to inquiry and debate. Who is John Bitzan?
